Calling all dachshunds! The Wiener Races are returning to downtown Mooresville.
After a hiatus of a few years, the 2016 Mooresville Wiener Race will bring dachshunds of all sizes and colors to downtown on Saturday, Oct. 8. The event is presented by the Mooresville Downtown Commission and coordinated by Tom and Taffy Kilroe.
The race itself was started back in 2009 by another downtown business owner, and Tom Kilroe organized it in 2011 and 2012. “It went over pretty good, but then it got put on hold,” he said.
Benefiting from this year’s event are two local animal rescue non-profits, Friends of the Animals and the Humane Society of Iredell. Both will have booths at the event to get their word out about their organizations.
